Austin Mobile Storage FAQ
Not sure where to start with your move? Some tips can help.
Moving can be a huge process that requires a lot of time, energy, and effort. It's not always easy to even know where to begin, but remembering a few tips can help. Every move is different, and at Austin Mobile Storage we strive to make your move as easy and painless as possible. But, if you're planning a move or even just putting some of your property into storage to make some room in your home, there are several tips that simply can't be ignored. Here are some of the main ones to remember.
Make a list and label boxes
It seems like a step you can skip, but the reality is that what goes into boxes and storage will eventually have to come out. If you make a list of what you're packing and take the time to label boxes, you can find what you want later more easily - and pack items more efficiently and safely.
Set important items aside
If you're packing very important items, set them aside until last. This way you can pack them last, near the doors, so they can be accessed again more readily. Plus, you can pack them more safely with less risk of damage.
Pack furniture contents in boxes
Furniture can usually be packed on its own. But what if it's a desk or dresser? Take the items inside out and pack in labeled boxes. It will lighten the furniture and help you keep track of everything later.
Use the appropriate box size
Everything has its own need, and making sure to pack items in the right box is important. Too small and the item can be damaged. A box too large, and it may mean that items shake or that the box collapses.
Be generous with packing paper & bubble wrap
It's important not to skimp on these two things since they're keeping your belongings safe and secure. Use lots of bubble wrap and packing paper to ensure that your items don't get damaged. The extra cost and effort is worth it.
Use plenty of packing tape
Just as you need to use bubble wrap and packing paper, don't ignore the packing tape, either. IT will keep boxes closed and items secure and safe throughout the storage or moving process.
Covering furniture ensures that it isn't damaged in any way during the move, protecting it from scratches, scuffs, and other problems. Blankets are great for covering up your furniture, but packing tape can be used as well.
Loading Your Container
Always place the heaviest items and boxes on the bottom and place lighter boxes on top.
Lighter items on Large items
Use dressers, cabinets, couches, and other furniture as a foundation to stack smaller, lighter items on
Distribute the weight of the load evenly across the entire container to avoid slippage or sliding
Wrap your furniture
Always cover furniture with moving blankets or bubble wrap to avoid damaging it in any way
Medium boxes in the center
Load middle-sized or middleweight boxes and furniture in the center of the stacks when possible
Fill in the Gaps with smaller items
Fill gaps throughout the loading process with light furniture and boxes. Think of it like Tetris!
What are your containers made of?
Our containers are constructed using Galvanized Steel sides, roofs, and frames. AMS storage containers offer a superior option to average portable storage containers. They are also rodent proof.
Our containers are weather proof, rodent resistant, and vented to significantly reduce moisture build-up.
Are there any items that are prohibited?
Yes. You are not allowed to store any hazardous materials (including: gasoline, oil, dangerous chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides etc…).
These items can be dangerous to other customers and our containers. You may be charged a clean up or replacement fee if any stored hazardous materials result in damage to our containers or others belongings.
How much weight does your container hold?
Although our patented lift system can lift 10,000lbs, most of our customers typically get 4,000 to 5,000 pounds in the storage container due to item size and packing constraints. We have a 6000lb limit for items placed inside the container.
If your storage needs include lots of books, magazines, tools, tool chests or other heavy items, remember to be careful to not exceed the maximum weight. You may not be able to use the entire container’s available space.
Where should I have my container placed?
For convenience, safety and security, we recommend placing your container in your driveway or parking space whenever possible.
Placement on the street or in the yard is another option. Our versatile lift system can put the container almost anywhere you want (depending on pathways and space). You are responsible for obtaining any necessary permits and complying with any and all local ordinances, including HOA rules.
Where can I store my container?
You can keep your unit at your residence, place of business, construction site or have us store it at our secure 24 hour access facility.
How do I pay?
You may pay using your Visa®, Mastercard® or American Express®, checks and cash are also accepted at our location.
How can I access my container when it's stored at your facility?
Your container is available to you 24 hours a day, anytime you want to access it. You will have a unique pin code to gain access to our facility. Most other portable storage companies require you to make an appointment at least 24 hours in advance.
